(L to R) Matt Prokopowicz, Ethan Paquette and Matt Ford
The Hofstra Pride Baseball program made great strides in 2010 under second-year coach Patrick Anderson and his staff (John Russo, James Lally and Kelly Haynes), finishing the year 20-28-1 and 10-14 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The 20-wins marked a nine-victory improvement over the 2009 season and the 10 CAA wins were four more than the previous season. The fact that this was accomplished with 20 new players, including 15 freshmen, seeing significant playing time makes it even more impressive and provides a foundation on which future success can be built.
The team was in contention for a playoff spot until the final week of the regular season and saw three players – Matt Prokopowicz, Ethan Paquette and Matt Ford – earn postseason recognition from the Colonial Athletic Association. Prokopowicz and Paquette were first team All-CAA selections, while Ford was named to the All-Rookie team.
Three individual team records were set in 2010 with Prokopowicz establishing himself as the program’s all-time hits leader with 271. In addition, Paquette established a new benchmark for RBIs in a season with 70, while reliever Jeff Guthridge set the single season appearance mark by pitching in 31 games.
